SRINAGAR: Senior joint resistance leader (JRL) and chairman of his faction of Hurriyat Conference, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq on Friday said that holding panchayat or Indian parliament polls in Kashmir have ‘lost all value’.

Mirwaiz, who offered congregational Friday prayers at the historic Jamia Masjid after two weeks of curbs, took to his Twitter handle to lash out the Indian government.

Mirwaiz said the essence of election process lies first in the establishment of democratic principles & institutions. He said neither any democratic principles were followed in Kashmir nor have any democratic institutions been allowed to flourish.

“Instead the reverse has taken place here by use of extreme arbitrary force & authoritarianism. Any electoral process in such a place becomes a mere eyewash &a means to propagate to outsiders that things are under control and getting ”normal” and as endorsement off Govt of India’s rule,” Mirwaiz said.

Mirwaiz said that the people will resist the polls and stay away from it while observing a complete shutdown in protest according to the programme given by JRL. (PTK)
