Ganderbal : Shortly after Beacon authorities threw Srinagar-Leh highway open for vehicular movement, District Magistrate Ganderbal Dr Piyush Singhla said that administration has decided to initiate criminal negligence proceedings against Beacon authorities for unilaterally deciding to open Srinagar Leh highway through Ganderbal district and putting the life and property of people in danger besides creating confusion considering law and order situation prevailing in the areas.
“Divisional Commissioner Kashmir issues a notification in this regard on the basis of recommendations of district administration Ganderbal. Throwing open Srinagar-Leh highway open without consulting Ganderbal administration is an illegal and childish act. Besides, we all know there is law and order problem in Kangan and Ganderbal and by opening this highway we can’t put tourists and other people at risk,” District Magistrate Ganderbal told news agency CNS.
He added that action will be initiated against the Beacon authorities for acting on their own. “We were trying our best to open this highway but due to law and order problem we delayed the process. But, we all were shocked when we received the news about Beacon throwing it open,” Singla said.
Pertinently, BRO officials said Srinagar-Leh highway has been opened for vehicular traffic today. They said the highway was thrown open for vehicular traffic during a function attended by Chinar Corps Lt General AK Bhatt, chief engineer beacon project Brigadier Vishal Agarwal and other BRO officials.
When contacted, Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Baseer Ahmed Khan said that they will shortly issue a notification in this regard. “After opening up of highway, we issue notification and it will be issued shortly,” he added. (CNS)
