Srinagar: A helicopter ride to the breathtaking Sunshine Point in the upper reaches of Gulmarg is fast becoming a major attraction for tourists, adding a new dimension to adventure tourism in Kashmir.

Owned by Majeed Bakshi, a Kashmiri entrepreneur currently residing in a European country, the $5 million helicopter was initially used for ferrying skiers to higher slopes. However, Bakshi told that they have now started offering helicopter rides for tourists, providing a unique aerial experience of Gulmarg’s stunning landscapes.

“We charge between Rs 11,000 to Rs 15,000 per ride, depending on the destination,” Bakshi said, adding that Sunshine Point remains the most sought-after location.

Encouraged by the growing demand, he revealed plans to expand the service to other prime tourist destinations like Sonamarg and Pahalgam.

The helicopter, designed and painted in France, is operated by two experienced pilots. Bakshi, who is the first and only Kashmiri to own a helicopter, believes such initiatives can boost Kashmir’s tourism industry by offering visitors a premium adventure experience. [KNT]
