SRINAGAR: The sorry state of affair in health services of Kashmir were exposed when Minister for Health & Medical Education, Bali Bhagat today in his so called extensive visit to north Kashmir hospitals was made to inspect some decorated hospitals instead of those in messes.

The minister visits the District Hospital, Baramulla and newly constructed Sub-District Hospital, Accidental Hospital building at Pattan. He also inspected ANMT School, Baramulla and newly sanctioned Medical College, Baramulla, but ironically no attention was paid to the much neglected Sub-district hospital (SDH) Sopore.

Worth to mention there were several cases of negligence reported from the SDH Sopore from last few days that includes a death of an infant on august 11. Civil Society of Sopore earlier stages a protest to seek attention of ministry and directorate towards the serious issues of negligence, especially in case of newborn by the pediatricians.

The SDH Sopore remains continuously in news for its serious negligence which made Chief Minister’s grievance Cell to take immediate cognizance of public grievance. The CM’s grievance Cell sought detailed report from the Director Health services Kashmir, which has not been submitted so far.

Sources said that the inquiry Committee consists of three doctors constituted by the Director Health Service Kashmir mere eyewash has submitted a verbal report to the director. Sources said that there is a clear attempt to shield the doctors responsible for neonatal death on August 11 allegedly, followed by medical negligence of a newborn from August 12 to August 15 in the hospital, as no written report was sought from the inquiry committee.

Reliable sources in the directorate said that the report of the inquiry committee is adverse to doctors in the recent negligence cases adding that the members of inquiry committee has suggested replacement of some pediatricians in the hospital, however it adds there is an attempt to shield the doctors by the higher-ups due to some political interventions.

The minister was accompanied by the Director Health Services Kashmir, Dr Saleem-ur-Rehman, Chief Medical Officer, Baramulla, Dr Bashir Ahmed Chalkoo and Medical Superintendent, Dr Sayeed Masood. Witnesses said that the minister was take to some decorated wards and units including, Blood Bank, Laboratory, Operation Theatre, Oxygen Plant at district hospital Baramulla by the director health services.

They said that it is a well-known fact in north Kashmir due to the dedication of Medical Superintendent, Dr Sayeed Masood, the DH Baramulla has turned into Model healthcare institution. “Why they didn’t made minister to visit other hospitals, especially SDH Sopore. There is no contribution of directorate if DH Baramulla is satisfactory in health care. It is an individual hardwork of Medical Superintendent of DH Baramulla. Now the higher-ups are scoring out of it. They deliberately skips SDH Sopore as they were knowing, they may face anger here”, said a group of attendants at SDH Sopore.

It is being alleged that the lobbyism in the directorate health services Kashmir has marred the health care in several hospitals, particularly in Sopore, Kupwara and Uri.
