Health Department identifies hospitals in every district for pregnant ladies

Medicos at Rainawari hospital conduct LSCS of woman from red zone area of South Kashmir 

Srinagar: Violating all the norms and advisory issued by Directorate of Health Services Kashmir, a pregnant lady without any screening and who hails from a red zone in Kulgam was brought here in JLNM Rainawari Hospital Srinagar.

  The woman was supposed to be taken care of by Community Health Centre Bijbehara, but was brought here in Srinagar for operation.

   Sources told KNT that the woman, though positive hails from a red zone area of Kulgam. The doctors and nurses conducted the LSCS of the patient. A lower (uterine) segment Caesarean section (LSCS) is the most commonly used type of Caesarean section. Most commonly to deliver the baby a transverse incision is made in the lower uterine segment above the attachment of the urinary bladder to the uterus.

   “JLNM is not supposed to conduct such surgeries at his point of time as there are so many Covid-19 patients admitted in the hospital. There are 60 Covid-19 patients at the moment admitted in the hospital,” a medico told KNT on condition of anonymity.

  Directorate of Health Services, Kashmir has issued a detailed advisory with regard to the management of pregnant woman in vies of Covid-19 pandemic. The advisory was issued after a detailed meeting of Health officials with Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Pandurangan K. Pole.

   Director Health Services Kashmir, Dr Samir Matuu told KNT that all pregnant women are to be screened in all red zones and samples are to be taken beyond 34 weeks of gestation, so that delivery of such pregnant woman could be conducted in a safe manner.

   He said that all high risk contacts or suspects, pertaining to district Srinagar, Budgam, Pulwama and Ganderbal be handled at JLNM Hospital Srinagar. “In district Baramulla, such patients shall be managed at SDH Sopore. In district Bandipora, these patients shall be treated at CHC Hajin. Similarly, in South Kashmir district including Kulgam, Anantnag, such patients will be treated at SDH Bijbehara,” he said.

  “Besides, patients of district Shopian will be managed at District Hospital Shopian. Further, such patients in district Kupwara will be handled at SB Private Nursing Home, which has been taken over by the district administration for managing the Gyne Obstetric patients.”

   All pregnant woman, who met criteria for Covid-19 test should be treated as though she has confirmed Covid-19 until test results are available.

   “Medical Superintendent JLNM Hospital Srinagar, BMO Sopore, BMO Kupwara, Medical Superintendent SDH Bijbehara shall keep 10 beds each reserved for such patients from red zone.”

   Director Health added that Medical Superintendent DH Shopian shall keep 5 beds reserved for such patients and they are directed to handle accordingly if emergency procedure is to be done for the patients.

  “All confirmed negative patients to be handled at respective places and any non-Covid high risk pregnant lady which need by shifted may be referred to LD Hospital. Confirmed Covid-19 cases will be referred to SKIMS Medical College Bemina.”

  “Obstetric management shall not be delayed in order to test for Covid-19, therefore, all medical officers, medical superintendents, in charge of the respective institutes shall ensure handling of delivery patients from red zone in manner that service shall not be delayed in view of non-availability of Covid-19 test reports. Separate beds and staff be identified for handling with pregnant ladies of red zone areas.” (KNT)
