SRINAGAR: The disgruntled Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leader and former minister Abdul Haq Khan is likely to join Congress.
Highly placed sources said Khan had a detailed meeting with senior Congress leader and former Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad. The meeting was facilitated by Congress MLA from Sopore Haji Abdul Rashid.
Sources said Khan during the meeting expressed his desire to join Congress. If sources are to be believed, Khan would soon be the new face of Congress for border district of Kupwara.
Khan, according to sources, didn’t attend PDP’s emergency meeting convened by party president Mehbooba Mufti at her official Gupkar residence yesterday after BJP withdrew support to PDP-led coalition government.
Sources said Khan didn’t respond to repeated phone calls of Mehbooba and when her brother Tasaduq Mufti contacted him, he pretended to be out of sorts. The Congress MLA Haji Rashid Dar confirmed that a meeting took place between Khan and Azad.
He said PDP humiliated Khan and there was no reason for him to attend the PDP meeting convened by Mehbooba. However, Haq Khan refused to comment on the issue. (CNS)
