Srinagar: Residents of various villages of Handwara town on Friday said that have yet to receive the compensation for the land taken by the government for construction of road from Chountipora to Bangus.
According to KNS correspondent, the residents of Handwara, Chountipora, Maratgam, Hangha,Badreher, Dareshpora, Machipora, Baderkal, Nagranar and Butshungi had provided their land for the construction of Bangus road in the year 2019, but they have received only 20 percent of the compensation amount.
Bashir Ahmad, a resident of Maratgam told KNS that they were promised by then Deputy Commissioner that they will receive all the compensation in one go.
“But till date they have received only 20 percent of compensation.”
Another resident of Handwara said that the government has released the payment of contractors engaged for construction of road, but the payment of landowners is yet to be released.
They threatened to stop the construction of road, if pending compensation is not released till March.
However when Kashmir News Service contacted ADC Handwara Nazir Ahmad, he said, “Government has not released the funds on the project and till now they have received only Rs 1.20 crore out of Rs 12 crore which is total cost of project.”(KNS).
