SRINAGAR: Jammu And Kashmir Governor Satya Paul Malik’s remarks about the new Srinagar mayor has triggered a political storm in the Valley, with the National Conference (NC) and the Congress saying that his statement has put a question mark on the credibility of the ongoing municipal elections in the state.

On Monday, Malik had said that Srinagar will have a “foreign-educated” mayor, seen as alluding towards former NC leader Junaid Azim Mattu, who quit the party to contest the municipal polls from the city.

However the Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) chief G A Mir hit out at Governor Satya Pal Malik for hinting that a “foreign-educated person” will be the mayor of Srinagar.

He said that “Governor raised question on his own credibility”. Mir said that few days ago Governor said that “Kashmiris are alienated by the mishandling of Delhi”.

Mir further added that “Governor’s statement raised question over the elections, he said that same things was happened in past that is the reason people don’t believe on election in Jammu Kashmir.

He added that “It seems that governor want to implemented Nagpur’s plan here in Kashmir, which people can’t accept.  (PTK)
