Budgam : Amid in this scorching heat when Kashmir used to witness almost uninterrupted power supply, Khag tehsil here in Central Kashmir’s Budgam district is witnessing erratic power supply. Power plays hide and seek much to the frustration of the people.
Khag tehsil comprises of 90 villages and gets power supply from Khag Receiving Station. Locals told news agency KNT that on 7 November, 2019, massive snowfall damaged Ahmedpora Grid Station and since then, Khag never received proper power supply.
Ahmedpora Grid Station supplies power to 4 Receiving Stations including Magam, Beerwah, Khag and Kunzar. Among these 4 Receiving Stations, only Khag Receiving Station develops frequent snags as a result power supply gets affected.
“The Power Development Department claims that it has repaired Ahmedpora Grid Station but the fact is that it still develops frequent snags that subsequently affect Khag Receiving Station,” said a local adding that the erratic power supply subjects people to inconvenience in this scorching heat.
When contacted, Chief Engineer Power Development Department Ajaz Ahmed Dar said that Central Kashmir’s Budgam district has an issue and they are trying to address it. He said that load exceeds capacity and this result in power breakdown sometimes. “I will defiantly do something in this regard and will address this problem,” Dar told KNT.
