Budgam : Villagers from over 60 hamlets here in Central Kashmir’s Budgam are impatiently waiting the completion of a bridge from past 10 years. Locals say they knocked at the doors of every concerned officer but nothing changed on the ground.

The foundation stone on the bride over Suknag Nallah at Sail Village of Budgam was laid in 2011. The work on the bridge went on snail’s pace.

“From past 10 years the work on bridge is going on. Sometime the work is stopped and sometimes started. The bridge needs a finishing touch but district administration is showing least interest in mitigating the sufferings of the people,” Sarpanch Sail Beerwah Habibullah told.

Bashir Ahmad, a local from Rawatpora Khag said they are being forced to cross the Sukhnag Nallah in absence of any bridge while during rainy season, it is very dangerous to step in the foot in the stream.

“We have orchards, agricultural fields and other day to day works on the other side of Nallah but in the absence of bridge we most of the times fear for our lives by crossing the Nallah through temporary means when the water level of Nallah exceeds,” he added.

The bridge connects over 60 villages in Central Kashmir’s Budgam district. “It is a vital bridge. People await its completion impatiently but district administration does nothing to give a respite to the people,” Jamia Khateeb, Rawatpora village Peerzada Muhammad Amin said.

The villagers appealed district administration to speed up the work on the bridge and throw it open for the people. (KNT)
