Asks PDP-led govt to come clean on special status issue
SRINAGAR: Terming the decision to provide compensation to the family of slain Khalid Muzafar Wani as victory of truth, Peoples Democratic Front (PDF) President and MLA Khansahib Hakim Mohammad Yasin today urged the government to adopt same analogy to other similar cases.
In a press statement issued here he said the ex-gratia relief announced in favour of family of Khalid Wani contradicts government’s own claims that he was a militant. “It (ex-gratia) proved that truth always prevails. Government ultimately accepted that Khalid was an innocent and was killed by security forces.”
“Now the government should order a judicial probe into the incident and also provide compensation to those families who have similar cases,” Hakim Yasin demanded.
On Supreme Court decision to make Securitisation and Reconstruction of Financial Assets and Enforcement of Security Interest (SARFAESI) Act applicable to J&K, Hakim Yasin said, “As soon as PDP-BJP government came to power, they made Article 370, State Flag issue and beef issue sub-judice. They want to erode the remaining provisions of Article 370. If this government doesn’t represent the case properly in the Apex Court, it could have dangerous ramifications.”
“Why is the government using the judicial route to subvert State’s constitutional character,” the PDF chief asked.
He said the state government counsel prima facie did not oppose the application of the SARFAESI Act in J&K. “The PDP-led government should come clean on special status issue as when they entered into an alliance with the BJP on the basis of ‘Agenda of Alliance’ it was told that State’s special status would be protected.”
On the recent visits of civil society delegations to Kashmir from outside state, the PDF chief said, “Though these delegations have no government mandate, it has broken an ice. They have projected the ground situation before the Government of India. They have accepted how human rights violations were being done in Kashmir.”
“These delegation which consists of media persons, former ministers and other civil society members have acknowledged that Kashmir is an issue and needs a political situation. It is welcome but now the government should come forward and work for the resolution of the issue,” he said.
“If Government thinks that situation has improved in Kashmir and they will once again forget it, then they are mistaken. Apparent peace in Kashmir can take turn anytime,” the MLA Khansahib warned.
