Ex-DG YS&S N A Khan unveils book

Ganderbal: The former Director General of Youth Services & Sports (YS&S), Jammu and Kashmir, and founder of the Government College of Physical Education, N A Khan Tuesday launched his book detailing the establishment and evolution of the college.

The book release took place during an event at the institution’s Ganderbal campus.

According to details collected the Government College of Physical Education, established in 1976 at Naseembagh Hazratbal and affiliated with the University of Kashmir, was envisioned to provide comprehensive training in physical education and sports.

The college officially began operations in 1978, admitting 50 students in its inaugural batch. Initially located at Naseembagh, the institution was later relocated to Ganderbal, approximately 22 kilometers from Srinagar.

To further promote sports education in the region, the Government of Jammu & Kashmir has developed a new campus for the college at Gadoora, Ganderbal. Spread across 210 kanals, this state-of-the-art facility is designed to meet national and international standards in physical education.

During the event, N A Khan spoke to students about the challenges and motivations behind the establishment of the college. “The college, with an alumni network of over 3,500, has played a significant role in producing skilled physical education teachers and promoting athletic excellence across the region,” he added.

Pertinently, the book launched provides an in-depth account of the factors that led to the establishment of the college and its development over the years.

The event was attended by the teaching and non-teaching staff of the college, along with students from various semesters.

Senior faculty member Dr. Nazir Ahmad Waza, along with other attendees, praised Khan for his contributions to the field of physical education and his dedication to the college’s growth—(KNO)
