New Delhi: The Election Commission of India (ECI) is set to announce the schedule for upcoming assembly elections at a press conference this afternoon, scheduled for 3 pm. The specific states for which the election dates will be released have not been disclosed in the media invite issued by the commission.
The terms of the legislative assemblies of Haryana and Maharashtra are nearing their end, with Haryana’s term concluding on November 3, and Maharashtra’s on November 26. Additionally, the Supreme Court has mandated that assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir be held before September 30.
Recently, the Election Commission conducted visits to Jammu and Kashmir and Haryana to assess the election preparedness in these regions. However, a visit to Maharashtra is still pending.
The announcement is eagerly awaited as it will set the stage for the political contests in these key states.
