Srinagar: The Economic Survey 2024-25 highlights significant improvements in Jammu and Kashmir’s healthcare sector as part of the broader national efforts to strengthen medical infrastructure and accessibility.

The Ayushman Bharat – Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY) has played a crucial role in providing financial protection to people in J&K, reducing out-of-pocket medical expenses and ensuring access to quality healthcare.

The government’s increased focus on healthcare spending has also led to the transformation of sub-health centres and primary health centres into Ayushman Arogya Mandirs, enhancing medical facilities in both urban and rural areas.

The survey also underlines the impact of digital health initiatives in J&K. The E-Sanjeevani telemedicine service, recognized as the world’s largest telemedicine network, has enabled remote consultations, improving healthcare accessibility, especially in remote areas. Additionally, the U-WIN portal has facilitated the digital tracking of vaccinations for pregnant women and children, strengthening immunisation efforts in the region.

Another notable development is the expansion of the Jan Aushadhi scheme, which has significantly improved access to affordable medicines in Jammu and Kashmir. With the establishment of more Jan Aushadhi Kendras, essential drugs have become more accessible, ensuring that people receive cost-effective medical treatment. [KNT]
