Srinagar: A moderate earthquake struck Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday, August 21, 2024. The tremor, measuring 3.6 on the Richter scale, originated in Baramulla, a district in the northern part of the region.
According to the National Center for Seismology (NCS), the earthquake occurred at 10:22 PM IST at a depth of 5 kilometers. The epicenter was located at latitude 34.33 N and longitude 74.52 E.
The estimated energy released by the quake was 1.6 x 10^10 joules, equivalent to 4.4 megawatt hours or 3.79 tons of TNT.
