SRINAGAR: Jahangir Ahmad War,18 a resident of Tengpora Pattan in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district, was hit on his neck when he was playing cricket in South Kashmir’s Anantnag district.
Jahangir’s ambition didn’t go beyond the work in paddy fields as farmer like his father, he studied and wanted to become a doctor but his dream remained unfulfilled for his poor family.
Jahangir have good records in academics despite poor background of family, his dream to be a doctor and wanted to be able to help poor people of the village remains shattered .
Speaking to Press Trust of Kashmir brother of Jahangir, Azad Ahmad War while crying said loudly that “All the family members and villagers wished to see you a doctor of our village”.
A Local resident Javid Ahmad said “I have seen a lot of hard working people in our village, they either work in the paddy fields or in the construction sites mostly are illiterate but Jahangir was hard working and passionate about his studies and was a good cricket player of our village”.
One of his team mate Adil Ahmad speaking to News Agency Press Trust of Kashmir said “he was religious and decent boy of our village, during the call of the prayer (Azaan) he would off his cricket and would take everybody to offer the Namaz”.
Jahangir was the 4th younger brother among his siblings. All three brothers fainted and were unconscious in a tent when the news of death of their brother reached their home in the evening.
Speaking to His father Farooq Ahmad War, he said Jehangir had left home four days ago to attend a cricket tournament organised by Government’s Youth Services and Sports department in South Kashmir, Yesterday he called me and said i just missed my century i made 67 runs for the team.
“Another day we received another call, the call left me shiver down spine that he is no more” said his father.
Besides this he was a generous boy of our village he adds. “I still remember he was studying under the light of a kerosene lamp whenever our village was witnessing power cuts” he adds.
Governor Satya Pal Malik has expressed grief and shock over the unfortunate death of a young cricketer who died while playing a cricket match in Anantnag district.
Governor has announced an ex-gratia of Rs 5 lakh to the next of kin of the deceased.
Meanwhile, Advisor to Governor, K Vijay Kumar also condoled the death of a 19 year old cricketer who died while playing a match in Anantnag district being organized by the Youth Services and Sports department.
Advisor K Vijay Kumar who is holding the charge of Sports department termed the incident as unfortunate. In his condolence message, he offered his condolences to the deceased family and prayed for peace to the departed soul.
The Advisor directed the Youth Services and Sports department to provide all possible help and support to the bereaved family. (PTK)
