Srinagar: Dogs have unleashed a terror at Kashmir University, which is valley’s premier education institution.

Stray dogs are seen roaming inside the varsity premises posing a constant threat to the students and officials.

This has compelled the students to remain confined inside the hostels in the evening hours.“The wasteful edibles from a restaurant to be thrown outside which the stray dogs find as a gift, near humanities block,” an official said.

The official said more than 200 dogs are roaming inside Kashmir University.

“We don’t venture out of our hostels in the evening hours because of dogs.
We prefer to offer morning and evening prayers in hostels,” the official said, who is staying in one of the hostels of Kashmir University told KNS.

The official said university has become a safe-heaven for the stray dogs, which often use bark at every visitor.He said that these dogs often seen chasing the people and are bullying everybody during the dark hours.

KNS team spotted dozens of dogs inside the varsity campuses.

“Yesterday late evening, I moved out to procure the medicine. But, when I stepped out of the hostel over half a dozen dogs chased me. I ran back to the hostel till three of my friends accompanied me to a medical shop, outside the varsity, ” a professor at Kashmir University said.

Every corner of the varsity share the same tale, where the dogs often chase the pedestrians frenziedly.

“Dozens of menacing stray dogs inside the premises of varsity have been scaring the students We don’t dare to move out of departments alone due to threat unleashed by the stray dogs here,” said  Abid Ahmad a university student. Officials said that the dogs are roaming around the departments include vice chancellor’s office and have become a nuisance for the people.

A senior official express helplessness to curb on the issue.
“Higher authorities shall take this issue with  Srinagar Municipal Corporation to remove the dogs from here for the convenience of the people. The

authorities should deploy extra security staff at the entrance gates to restrict the movement of stray dogs,” said the official. (KNS).
