SRINAGAR: Another appalling case of medical apathy was reported from the Rajouri district. In a video which had gone viral on social media, the doctor is seen allegedly refusing to treat a patient with a serious head injury.
According to reports, the patient was injured during late night hours and when he was rushed to a government-run hospital, the attendants knocked at the doctor’s doors for several minutes at midnight.
Shockingly, the attendants were then abused by the doctor and turned away for ‘disturbing him at night’ even though he was supposed to be on duty that night. Meanwhile, the attendants alleged that the doctor not only manhandled them but also told them to go and call the Narendra Modi before they call him.
The incident happened at a government-run primary health center located at Moghla, Kalakote area in Rajouri district. It throws light on the abysmal condition of the state’s health sector, especially in the remote areas. The doctor turned away the patient without being concerned about his serious condition that could have worsened and turned fatal without timely treatment.
However, such cases of medical apathy have been reported earlier as well but the complaints about dereliction of duty by doctors and paramedics often go unheard by the concerned authorities. (PTK)
