‘Jail Superintendent to inform relatives of prisoners: VK Singh

Srinagar: Two days after a high-powered committee was set up by the Jammu and Kashmir government on the directions of Supreme Court on the release of prisoners to decongest jails in wake of Covid-19 outbreak, Director General of Police, Prisons Jammu and Kashmir has recommended the release of at least 12 prisoners on parole.

   Director General of Prisons, V.K. Singh while talking to Kashmir News Trust that he has so for signed the papers of 12 prisoners and they will be released in coming days. “From last two days, we found at least 12 prisoners that can be released on parole and I have given my nod. There is a proper procedure that we have to follow,” he said.

  Singh said that Jail Superintendent will be informed about the release of the prisoners and accordingly he will inform the relatives of those prisoners who will be released.

   While responding to a question, DG Prisons told KNT that so for only 12 cases have been scrutinized and in coming days, cases of more prisoners may be taken up.

   “We have prepared a list of detainees who will be released shortly, mostly on parole, to decongest jails in J&K in the wake of deadly COVID-19 outbreak,” Singh said.  (KNT)
