SRIANAGR: The association of Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) employees for the third consecutive day today on Saturday continued to protest against the government for ‘failing to regularize them from past several years’.
The protesting members of MGNREGA holding banners assembled at Srinagar’s Pratap Park and staged sit-in there. Meanwhile scores of MGNREGA association members were detained by the police when they tried to march towards commercial hub Lal Chowk.
While yesterday, the employees had closed their mouths with tape as a mark of protest. The protesters told media that from past several years, the government is making tall promises with them regarding the regularization of their duties but unfortunately not even a single promise has been fulfilled with the employees.
“We are on streets today to protest against the failures of the government in regularizing our duties. We have been urging the successive regimes to regularize our duties but unfortunately our plea went in deaf ears. We went from pillar to post to seek justice but unfortunately all in vein,” they said.
They said that until the government won’t fulfill their demands, they will continue to protest against them. However, the protesters later dispersed peacefully.
