Sayan Chatterjee,
New Delhi : Indian armed forces always have been the saviour for the civil society – whether it is protecting them by guarding the borders, or rescuing them when a natural calamity strikes. Adding to that testimony, daring Naval Officer Lt Rahul Dalal rescued a man drowning in the Kochi Channel near Vypin Beach on 5th of April, 2019.
Lt Dalal of the Indian Navy was at Vypin beach, for sight-seeing along with his wife on that day. At about 1610 hrs the officer spotted a human life struggling in water, and, was unable to swim and trying to shout out for help. A crowd was gathered, but were not able to help the victim.
Without losing out on any minutes further, Lieutenant Dalal responded immediately and went to the rescue of the drowning man. It took only a few minutes for the Naval officer to reach the victim but almost 20 to 25 minutes to bring him back to the shore, despite being a good swimmer so as the under-current was strong.
The officer also had to deal with the desperate and panic stricken victim who was pulling him down, putting both their lives in danger. The officer later calmed the victim and made him hold onto his shoulders, after which he started swimming towards the beach.
Lt Dalal mustered all his strength and managed to reach the shore with help of some locals. The victim, however, was not breathing and was unconscious. When his mouth was opened, it was found that some plants were choking his air passage. Lt Dalal cleared the passage and administered Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), whereupon the victim was revived. In the meantime, the police was informed and the victim was taken to a Government hospital from where he was discharged after recuperation. The victim has been identified as Mr Dileep Kumar from Aurangabad.
On a special edit request, as made, Captain DK Sharma Spokesperson & PRO (Indian Navy) was helpful in making us understand the aftermath sentiments from Lt. Rahul Dalal, IN, the naval officer expressed, “Feeling good and satisfied after hearing the voice of a man whom I saved. He called me yesterday after getting discharged from hospital. It really gives me a feeling of great satisfaction which can’t be framed in words. If we believe in ourselves, pushing our own limits to save a life is a beautiful moment for life. This is a point in my life where I have executed what has been taught to me by Indian Navy and my seniors who have groomed us in such a manner. Proud to be a part of the Indian Navy”
