Srinagar: Amid government ordering a magisterial inquiry into the Hyderpora encounter, demand to return the bodies of Dr Mudasir and businessman Altaf Ahmed Dar gets shriller as more and more people and political parties are hitting to roads in Kashmir capital Srinagar.
At least four persons were killed in Hyderpora Srinagar encounter. Police said that the slain were militants and their associates, however, families of three persons are contesting the police claim saying they were innocent and had nothing to do with militancy.
During the night hours, police evacuated the protesting families camping at Press Enclave Srinagar while LG Manoj Sinha in a tweet said J&K LG ordered inquiry into the encounter, saying will ensure no injustice.
Today, Peoples Democratic Party and Sajad Lone led Peoples Conference stage protest demanding the return of bodies without any delay.
While talking to reporters, PC senior leader Muhammad Khurshid Aalam said that it will be grave injustice if bodies will not be returned to families. He said there should be neutral probe to ascertain the facts.
“Prime Minister being the guardian of the country should ensure every human life matters. We demand independent probe, justice and return of bodies to families,” he said.
The protesters were carrying placards seeking an end to innocent killings and return of the bodies.
Scores of PC workers participated in the protest at Sangarmal Srinagar. It was led by senior party leaders Abdul Gani Wakil and Khurshid Aalam.
PDP leader Muhammad Yaseen Bhat also staged a protest saying the killing of innocent civilians is the murder of democracy. He said innocent killings should immediately stop and the bodies should be returned to families without any delay.
Meanwhile, while reacting the forceful eviction of protesting families from Press Enclave Srinagar, former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah in a tweet said: “This is the naya Kashmir of 2021. This is how the J&K police fulfils @PMOIndia promise to remove “dil ki doori & Dilli se doori. It’s outrageous that the J&K administration did not allow the families to conduct a peaceful sit in protest.”
He added that: “I’ve rarely seen families who have been wronged conduct themselves with such dignity. They have been reasonable in their demands & dignified in their conduct. The result of this is visible for all to see as the police drags them away in the dead of night.”
Omar Abdullah said that LG Manoj Sinha should reach out to these families, hear them in person & then give them the bodies of their loved ones. “It’s the only right thing to do, it’s the only humane thing to do,” Omar said. (KNT)
