Chandigarh : National Conference leader and former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir Dr Farooq Abdullah was grilled by Enforcement Directorate in Chandigargh over alleged irregularities in Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association.
Last year India’s premier investigating agency CBI had filed a chargesheet against Dr Farooq Abdullah, the then JKCA general secretary Muhammad Saleem Khan and the then treasurer Ahsan Ahmad Mirza, and also J&K Bank executive Bashir Ahmad Misgar under Ranbir Penal Code provisions related to criminal conspiracy and criminal breach of trust.
The four have been accused of misappropriating over Rs 43 crore from grants given by the Board of CCI to the Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association for promoting cricket in the state between 2002 to 2011.
The CBI in its chargesheet has alleged that Abdullah as the Cricket Association president at that time had connived with the treasurer of JKCA and others for undue siphoning off and misappropriation of funds.
An official from Enforcement Directorate told Kashmir News Trust on condition of anonymity that Abdullah was summoned to Chandigarh a day before and on Wednesday he was thoroughly questioned about the scam. (KNT)
