SRINAGAR: Ahead of Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL) call of ‘Islamabad Chalo’ the government on Thursdaybegan the Crackdown on Hurriyat leaders and activists by placing them under house detention or either house confinement.
Pertinently, JRL has called for a public Jalsa on 15th December at Lal Chowk Islamabad to demonstrate before the whole world what people of Kashmir stand for. The JRL statement said it is a litmus test for the claimants of democracy, adding, this Jalsa will highlight the miseries and hardships faced by the people of Kashmir at the hands of forces, the leaders said that Indian leaders falsely presume to have defeated indigenous Kashmiri resistance by military oppression, NIA and ED terrorism.
Reports reaching KNB said that almost all the pro-freedom leaders have been detained by the authorities to foil the Anantnag march called by JRL. Syed Ali Geelani and Mirwaiz Umar Farooq have been placed under house arrest at their Hyderpora and Nigeen residence. The JKLF Chairman Muhammad Yasin Malik was earlier shifted to Central jail Srinagar along with other dozens of JRL leaders and activist when they tried to march towards Lal Chowk Srinagar against the US decision to declare Jerusalem as Israel’s capital.

One of the leaders of Hurriyat (G) in house arrest told Kashmir News Bureau on phone “The crackdown on genuine leadership has shown yet again that there is no democracy here but forced and illegal occupation, adding, on the one side the Indian Government talks about freedom of expression and on the other places “all genuine voices” behind bars.” (KNB)
