COVID-19: 5 minors, 3 CRPF men among 108 positive cases in J&K, tally rises to 5406

‘Two more deaths recorded in UT, toll reaches 65’

Jammu and Kashmir Wednesday witnessed 108 fresh positive cases including five minors, three CRPF personnel and a soldier taking the total number of virus cases in the Union Territory to 5406.

Officials told news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that among new 108 new cases, 58 were tested positive at SKIMS Soura, 13 at JVC Bemina, 18 at CD hospital and rest at other hospitals. 

Among 108 new cases, 81 belong to Kashmir division while as 27 are from Jammu division, officials said, adding that the total number of positive cases in Kashmir division has reached to 4172 including 2353  recoveries and 57 deaths while as total number of positive cases in Jammu division has reached to 1234  including 561 recoveries and 7 deaths.

The officials said that total number of active cases in Jammu and Kashmir are 2428 including 1762 from Kashmir division and 666 from Jammu division.

Meanwhile, out of 5406 positive cases in Jammu and Kashmir, 2914 cases have recovered which is 53.88 percent of total cases in J&K.


“Cases tested positive in J&K include 7 each from Kulgam and Baramulla, 17 from Srinagar, 4 Anantnag, 27 from Shopian, 9 from Kupwara, 2 from Bandipora, 5 from Budgam, 2 from Pulwama and one from Ganderbal in Kashmir division while as 27 from Jammu division include include 2 Samba district, 17 from Udhampur, 3 each from Rajouri and Reasi and one each Samba and Kuthua,” officials disclosed.

Dr G H Yatoo, Nodal officer for covid-19 at SKIMS said that out of samples tested at virology lab SKIMS, 58 were tested positive. 

The positive cases include 32 from Shopian, 06 from Kulgam, 05 each from Baramulla and Srinagar, 04 from Anantnag, 02 each from Bandipora and Kupwara and one each from Pulwama and Ganderbal. 

Officials in Shopian said that 32 cases include 06 from Kanjiullar, 4 from Shahlatoo, 4 from Thairan Kandi,3 from Reshipora ,3 from Kadgam, 3 from Gadipora, 3 from Sedow( all minors), 2 from DPL Shopian, one each from main town Shopian, DKpora, Nowpora and DC office. 

The positive patients also include 3 CRPF men including 31 and 34 year old from 79 Bn CRPF Sonwar and one from 144 Bn CRPF Nehru Nagar Srinagar and a 33 year army man of 42 RR from Satura Tral besides 15-year-old baby from Bemina, 3 minors from Sedow Shopian and one from Bandipora. 

Dr Reyaz Untoo, Principal JVC Bemina said that out of 565 samples tested at the hospital on Wednesday 13 including 6 from Budgam and 7 from Srinagar were tested positive. 

He said that 22 more patients including a 12-day-old baby were discharged after recovery and now 104 patients are undergoing treatment at the hospital.

Officials from CD hospital said that 18 cases were tested positive at the CD hospital Lab. 

In the meanwhile, with the death of 65-year-old man from Shopian at SKIMS and 70-year-old man from Baramulla district, the death toll due to Covid-19 in J&K has reached to 65 of which 58 from Kashmir division and 7 from Jammu division. 

Officials said that it was a case of COPD and patient was admitted at SKIMS on June 15 after testing positive for Covid-19. 

Professor Farooq Jan Medical Superintendent SKIMS Soura also confirmed his death while adding that patient died due to Cardiopulmonary arrest on Wednesday morning. 

Medical Superintendent of District hospital Baramulla, Dr. Masood confirmed the death of a COVID positive patient at the hospital, saying that a 70-year-old man who was tested positive earlier has died today. He said the deceased was hailing from Khanpora Baramulla.
Pertinently, Srinagar district with 14 deaths has the highest fatalities followed by Baramulla 12, Kulgam eight, Anantnag five and Shopian seven each, five in Kupwara, four in Jammu, three in Budgam, two in Pulwama while one death each has been reported from Bandipora, Doda, Udhampur and Rajouri.

As per officials figures, 650 positive cases including 08 deaths and 431 recoveries are from Kulgam, 532 including 11 deaths and 223 recoveries are from Baramulla, 566 including 14 deaths and 215 recoveries are from Srinagar, 583 including 410 recoveries and 05 deaths are from Anantnag, 585 including 322 recoveries and 07 deaths are from Shopian, 419 including 308 recoveries and 05 deaths are from Kupwara, 248 including 203 recoveries and 01 death are from Bandipora, 264 including 116 recoveries and 04 deaths are from Budgam, 261 including 70 recoveries and 02 deaths are from Pulwama and 64 including 55 recoveries are from Ganderbal.

In Jammu division, 279 including 159 recoveries and 04 deaths are from Jammu district, 201 including 84 recoveries are from Ramban, 185 including 81 recoveries and 01 death are from Udhampur, 163 including 81 recoveries are from Kathua, 105 including 49 recoveries from Poonch, 113 including 42 recoveries are from Samba, 72 including 01 death and 14 recoveries are from Rajouri, 63 including 30 recoveries and 01 death are from Doda, 30 including 13 recoveries are from Reasi and 23 including 08 recoveries are from Kishtwar.

As per the daily information bulletin, 24,3887 persons in Jammu and Kashmir are under observation while 40,152 persons have been kept under home quarantine besides that 2428 persons are in hospital isolation while 28 persons are under hospital quarantine.

According to the bulletin, 153,255 persons have completed surveillance period and 47,960 persons are under home surveillance besides that so far results of 282,268 samples are available.

Out of 282,268 the number of samples tested negative stands at 276,862 while as 5406 have been tested positive, among them 2428 are active and 2781 persons have recovered and 64 persons have died—(KNO)
