‘2785 active cases in UT’

Srinagar: The number of COVID-19 cases in Jammu & Kashmir reached 4507 in J&K UT on Wednesday as 161 persons including 28 CRPF men and 19 health workers tested positive for the deadly virus.
Officials told news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), reveal that among 161 new cases detected in J&K today , 54 tested positive at SKIMS, 37 at CD hospital, 28 at JVC Bemina, 19 at Army’s Command Hospital Udhampur and rest at other hospitals.
Of these 161 persons, 115 belong to Kashmir while 46 are from Jammu division. With fresh cases, the total number of positive cases in Kashmir division have reached 3522 including 1403 recoveries and 46 deaths while as total number of cases in Jammu division have reached to 985 including 268 recoveries and 5 deaths.
The officials said that total number of active cases in the UT are 2785 including 2073 from Kashmir division and 712 from Jammu division. Giving details about fresh cases, officials said 7 positive cases are from Anantnag, 28 from Kulgam, 10 from Srinagar, two from Budgam, 18 from Kupwara, 37 from Shopian, eight from Baramulla, four from Bandipora one from Pulwama, four from Jammu district, two from Ramban, 19 from Udhampur, two from Kathua, 12 from Poonch, six from Samba and one from Doda.
Dr G H Yatoo Nodal officer for covid-19 at SKIMS said that out of 1785 samples tested at SKIMS, 54 came positive. “Among these cases, 18 are from Kupwara, 15 from Shopian, 07 each from Anantnag and Baramulla, 04 from Bandipora, 02 from Srinagar and 01 from Delhi,” he said.
Dr Reyaz Untoo, Principal JVC Bemina said that among 113 samples from Budgam that were tested two were found positive while as among 375 samples from Shopian that were tested, 26 were found positive. He further added that 17 more patients were discharged from the hospital after complete recovery taking tally of discharged patients to 266 . “140 are still undergoing treatment at the hospital,” he said, adding that 13 major surgeries of covid-19 positive pregnant ladies were conducted at the hospital.
Officials from CD hospital said that out of 846 samples tested at the hospital, 37 were found positive including two Army men and 28 CRPF men of 90 battalion, who were primary contacts of deceased CRPF man, who belonged to same battalion. Assistant Commandant and CRPF spokesman for (operations) in Kashmir, Junaid Khan said that 28 CRPF men who were tested positive for covid-19 were the contacts of CRPF man who was tested positive for covid-19 and later died at SMHS.
He further added that all MHA protocols are being followed in treating these positive patients. Lieutenant Colonel Inam Danish said that two doctors and 17 para-medical staff members of Udhampur district hospital tested positive at Army’s Command Hospital Udhampur.
District Magistrate Udhampur, Dr Piyush Singla said that two doctors and 17 para-medical staff members tested positive. “All of them were high risk contacts who attended delivery of a pregnant positive lady and were already under quarantine,” he said.
