NC leader escapes unhurt, attackers decamp with two weapons from slain, searches launched

SRINAGAR: A policeman was killed and another injured after militants on Monday attacked a police vehicle escorting the National Conference (NC) leader at Muran Chowk in Pulwama district of south Kashmir.
Reports reaching GNS said that some suspected militants opened fire upon the police vehicle, guarding the NC leader Ghulam Mohidin Mir at ShahiHamdan school in Muran Chowk of Rajpora Pulwama
In the incident, two policemen suffered serious injuries and were taken to nearby hospital where one among the critically injured constable Mudadir Ahmad declared brought dead on arrival, they said.
Another injured constable Nazir Ahmad referred to Srinagar hospital for specialized treatment, they said.
The militants according to reports decamped with the service rifles from the possession of two slain cops, he said.
In the attack, the NC leader is said to have escaped unhurt, they said.
SSP Pulwama Mohd Aslam Choudhary also confirmed the attack and death of the constable Mudasir Ahmad.
He also confirmed snatching of two weapons from the slain policemen.
The entire area has been cordoned off and a hunt has been launched to nab the assailants, he said. (GNS)
