Connectivity from Kashmir takes hit

SRINAGAR: With just winter starting the connectivity from Kashmir has once again taken a severe hit. Painfully enough for the passengers the strategic Jammu-Srinagar highway remained closed for the third consecutive day on Wednesday due to multiple landslides in Ramban district, a traffic official said.
It has been a winter ritual that Scores of valley-bound passengers get stranded in Jammu for weeks were they often complains of running out of money as hotels and restaurants have been charging exorbitant rates.
On the other hand, Poor visibility and fresh snowfall affected the air traffic at Srinagar airport on Wednesday, reports said.
Quoting an official, they said that no flight has operated from Srinagar International Airport due to and poor visibility and light snowfall.
Ajaz Ahmad, a passenger stated – ”As soon as the winter sets in the miseries and woes of people of Kashmir increase manifold especially for those who are supposed to travel. Cancelled flights, closed road link the Jammu Srinagar National Highway makes the matters worse. An effective roadmap should be devised by the government so that people of Kashmir especially those undertaking journeys do not suffer everytime.”
The railway link which was supposed to connect Kashmir with rest of India is taking its own time to complete with no surety that bad weather wont impact its functioning. Authorties on their part have stated that The Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL) Project will be completed by March 2021,
On the other hand of spectrum, many voices have called for full functioning of traditional road links of Kashmir which have been lend defunct due to decades long India Pakistan tensions and fights.
Veteran voices lament the fact that how from once being important place of Silk route Kashmir has been rendered handicapped due to few road links courtesy continuous India Pakistan animosity.
