Srinagar: Congress leaders as well as cadre from Kashmir on Monday virtually forgot party architect Jawahar Lal Nehru on his death anniversary.

Congress party all across country observed the death anniversary of Jawahar Lal Nehru on May 27. Nehru was the first Prime Minister of India who died on May 27, 1964 two years after Indo-Sino war.

Reports from Kashmir capital Srinagar said that not a single top leader from party visited Congress headquarters to pay tribute to Nehru. “On May 21, we observed the death anniversary of Rajiv Gandhi at our headquarters in Srinagar but today barring a few people nobody arrived here and this is unfortunate,” said a Congress activist to news agency CNS.

He added that most of the Congress leaders are mourning the recent debacle in Parliament both in Centre and state. ‘State President is in shock and that is why he didn’t visit at the headquarters and instead dispatched a statement in which he extolled the virtues of Nehru,’ he added.

Efforts to contact State Congress President Ghulam Ahmed Mir didn’t materialize. (CNS)
