Couple of Imams arrested for violating Prohibitory orders
Srinagar : There is complete chaos in Kashmir. The Coronavirus scare has crippled life across the length and breadth of Valley.
Complete lockdown continues. The attendance in Masjids has significantly dropped and very thin to negligible attendance was seen in Kashmir Masjids all the five praying times. This follows fear of Coronavirus spread and also strict action from administration against violators of prohibitory orders. Over 14 persons were booked in Awantipora for offering Zuhar prayers inside a Masjid yesterday.
The management of all the mosques in Kashmir decided not to offer Friday congregational prayers except by a few odd people. People were advised to offer Zuhar Prayers at home and not to turn up in Masjids. Only Azans were called in Masjids.
In Qazigund, a Molvi was detained after he tried to deliver a sermon through Public Address System at Masjid Umar.
In some mosques, in far flung areas, dozens of people offered Friday prayers. Over 250 people offered prayers in a local Masjid at Pandoshan village of district Shopian.
Reports said that Police Station Kangan here in Central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district arrested Imam of Jamia Masjid Chattergul for delivering sermon through Public Address System. He was identified as Abdul Rashid Chouhan.
Amid chaos, some are alleging that sanitation, hygiene, cleanliness drives to root out Covid-19 were not done at grass root levels but urban areas have so for been priorities to gain publicity. Common people are facing difficulties to procure essential commodities.
Amid rains, Srinagar-Jammu Highway was deserted but through only for essential vehicles.
To contain the public movement, heavy deployments are being made in every nook and cranny of Valley. Medical Shops are open and so are the shops that sell essential commodities.
Majority of the Valley hospitals are facing acute shortage of essentials like personal Protective equipments, face masks, hand sanitizers and infra red thermometers.
A medico told KNT that as the coronavirus infection cases increase day by day, hospitals are unable to give succor to people. The situation demands a large number of equipments should be made available to the hospitals.
Medical Superintendent, Dr Majid Mehrab admitted that Anantnag hospital lack equipments to deal with Coronavirus suspects.
Meanwhile, all the roads of Valley wore a deserted look. No transport plied on roads. On rain drenched roads, only police and government forces personnel were seen on nakas. All the shops, business establishment and majority of government offices were shut.
