CM’s grievance cell takes cognizance of media reports about lethargic attitude of Paediatricians at SDH Sopore

SRINAGAR: While taking cognisance of media reports about the lethargic and negligent attitude of Paediatricians at Sub District Hospital (SDH) Sopore, Chief Minister’s grievance cell wrote to the Director Health Service, Chief Medical Officer (CMO), Baramulla and Deputy Commissioner Baramulla to submitted report within in one week.

It is being learnt that a letter has been dispatched to the concern authorities to take up inquiry into the matter to avoid any untoward with newborns hereafter in the hospital.

Meanwhile online team of Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minster replied to the news report on a twitter handle, which reads ; ” We have taken up the issue with complaint number 71064 on “.

The Gist of Complain on grievince portal reads:  “A lot of hue and cry came up recently from the Sub District Hospital (Sopore), District Baramulla wherein several patients have claimed that the pediatricians posted in the hospital do not take care of proper screening of new born babies. The matter became extremely crucial as a baby needs immediate screening in the first 48 hours of hisher birth. The missing of doctors (Pedeatricians) causes a problem for the new born babies. The matter was also raised by the concerned BMO who sought a report from Dr.Suhail Naik who is allegedly running a private clinic. The authorities are requested to consider the matter as extremely important and take necessary action by intervening properly”.

The news report mentions that the paediatricians posted in the SDH Sopore hardly bothers to perform a screening tests check for rare but serious conditions in babies just after birth.  A screening test generally includes a variety of blood tests, a hearing test and heart defect screenings as well.

It mentions that this negligence of paediatricians is putting life of dozens of newborn babies at risk every day. The news reports also mention for most of time, the paediatricians in the hospital are missing. According to reports one of the parents, whose baby was born on 12th of August, said that the baby was handed over to them after birth without any perception of a screening test or preliminary examination. It adds for two days, the paediatrician was untraced. The father of a new born baby was forced to run from pillar to post after his infant developed some problems.

“The mother of child was discharged from the hospital after three days and latter the baby’s condition was deteriorated as he remained unattended in the hospital, the media report adds. The baby was rushed to the District hospital Baramulla on the other days where doctors perform medical checks of the baby declaring Jaundice. The baby was kept under observation and undergoing a medical care at the hospital”, reports said.
