SRINAGAR: As government has finalised dates for holding annual examinations of class 10th, 12th, students are demanding deferment of the annual exams in view of the “incomplete syllabus” in the schools.
Joint secretary examination JK Board of School Education (BOSE) yesterday said that they have finalized the examination dates for annual exams of class 12 as October 22 while as October 24 and 26 have been fixed for class 10th and 11th annual exams respectively.
However, the students are not ready for exams and demand deferment of exams till November. One of the students of 12th class said, “We even don’t have completed our 70% of syllabus. It is not possible for any institute to complete 100% syllabus of 12th class within these 20 days”.
He added that even government schools has not completed syllabus”. “This is really going to be big issue, if BOSE will not take any step’, he said.
Another student Danish from Pulwama said, “Director Education has mentioned in a letter to JKBOSE few days ago that our syllabus is yet to get complete and students won’t get that much time to prepare.”
“Our 40 percent syllabus is yet to be completed as we have been able to cover only 50 percent so far. Authorities issued date sheet for exams but we are not prepared. Our only demand is to defer exams till we complete the syllabus,” Tabinda a student of 12th class told Press Trust of Kashmir.
Meanwhile parents also came into the support, saying, “Our only demand is to defer exams till our children’s cover 100 percent syllabus”.
Pertinently this year schools in Kashmir valley remained closed for 32 days in two months from March 5 to May 5 in wake of the student protests that erupted across the Valley.
“The decision to close the educational institutions was taken by government as a precautionary measure to avoid law. This is the responsibility of the government to take steps into the interests of students”, parents told PTK (PTK)
