Srinagar: People’s Democratic Party ex Youth Secretary and Constituency In-Charge, Habba Kadal, Arif Laigaroo is deeply concerned about the increasing use of surveillance and harassment tactics by law enforcement against citizens in the lead up to the G20 summit in Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir. Reports of house searches without due process or reasonable suspicion are unacceptable and have no place in a democratic society.
The PDP Leader says in a release that ” The government must strike a balance between security and rights, and ensure that law enforcement agencies are held accountable for their actions.”
He says there needs to be cooperation between, the government, law enforcement and local citizens if the event is to be a success and harassment with reason is a step backwards. It is important that citizens remain vigilant in protecting their rights while recognizing the significance of the G20 summit. Together, we can ensure that the summit is a success.
“While we must remain vigilant,” he added, “about the potential violations of rights, we must also recognize the importance of the summit in addressing global issues and promoting cooperation among nations. As residents of Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir, we have a unique opportunity to showcase our city and its culture to the world.”
He urged all citizens to play their part in ensuring that the G20 summit is carried out successfully. Let us welcome the delegates with open arms and show them the warmth and hospitality that our region is known for, laigaroo said.
