Srinagar: Jammu Kashmir Chief Secretary Tuesday virtually contradicted the remarks made by Ministry of Home Affairs stating that some resignations of SPO’s took place in South Kashmir.

VR Subramaniyam, the Jammu Kashmir Chief Secretary while addressing a press conference here in Kashmir capital Srinagar said that he came to know through social media that some SPO’s have resigned from their jobs in South Kashmir. He said more than 30,000 SPO’s are working in Jammu and Kashmir Police Department. “The resignations compared to total number of SPO’s who are above 30,000 is negligible,” he said.

After the killing of three SPO’s in South Kashmir’s Shopian district, a number of SPO’s had uploaded their videos on social media announcing their resignations. Some SPO’s announced resignations in local mosques during Friday congregational prayers.

Reacting to the news reports about the resignations of SPO’s, Indian Home Minister Rajnath Singh had claimed no SPO resigned from anywhere in Kashmir.

Jammu Kashmir Chief Secretary said that for SPO’s, the government is going to make a substantial hike to their salaries in next few days. (CNS)
