Srinagar : Department of Pulmonary Medicine, Chest Disease Hospital Srinagar have expressed concern over shifting of Covid-19 patients suffering from other various critical illnesses to Chest Disease(CD) hospital from SMHS and other associated hospitals.
In an open letter written to Principal/Dean Govt.Medical College Srinagar, Head of department Pulmonary Medicine raising concern over the existing protocol to shift critically-ill patients who had tested positive for the virus and seeks either a separate isolation in SMHS Hospital for patients requiring multispecialty care efficient care of such patients or deputing specialists from every specialty to the CD Hospital to provide specialist care.
It is evident from the letter that the patients shifted to the CD hospital some of which have even died were not having any respiratory illnesses due to Covid-19.
The shifted patients include CVA- (Thrombotic stroke) shifted from department of Medicine, Acute Subdural Haematoma shifted from department of Neurosurgery, Thyroid Carcinoma stage 4 with Tracheostomy shifted from department of ENT, Post operative case of perforated appendix shifted from department of surgery, case of encephalitis with postpartum psychosis shifted from department of Medicine, Case of progressive cognitive decline shifted from department of Medicine, Gluteal abscess shifted from department of plastic surgery.
When Kashmir News Bureau contacted Dr Saima, Principal GMC Srinagar said, “The issue has been already sorted out while I have got the feedback from all the HOD’s as well. I have made a letter out of it and send it to the Lieutenant Governor as well as to the Financial Commissioner.” (KNB)
