Budgam : Several villages in Chadoora sub-division of central Kashmir’s Budgam district are facing acute shortage of potable water for the last several weeks.
Locals told that the villages including Bugam, which is locally known as “Chota-Punjab” for its vegetable production, have been facing acute shortage of drinking water.
They said that the village having more than five thousand population is facing a lot of inconveniences in the absence of drinking water supply.
The villagers accused the department of ignoring their plights as the womenfolk of the is forced to walk miles to fetch water for daily chores.
A resident of Bugam village said that even though some water tankers, having capacity of just 20 litres, are deputed to these villages on a daily basis, however, it is not sufficient for daily consumption.
He said that the area has been facing immense hardships due to the water crisis for the last four weeks and they are being forced to consume contaminated water as nobody is paying heed to their sufferings.
“Amid the ongoing pandemic we have to consume contaminated water every day which puts us at high risk of contracting diseases but no one from admin pays heed to our sufferings,” the villagers said.
Meanwhile, the villagers appealed to the deputy commissioner Budgam to personally look into the matter and resolve the issue—(KNO)
