SRINAGAR : Gurez residents in north Kashmir’s Bandipora district on Friday staged a protest demonstration against the closure of Bandipora-Gurez road that has been closed for traffic for past four months.
The residents of Dawar, Markoot, Wanpora, Mastan and other adjoining villages held protests outside tehsil office Dawar, demanding immediate opening of Bandipora-Gurez road.
They said that they are facing immense hardships due to closure of Bandipora-Gurez road as the area is cut off from rest of the valley since the road was closed since December last year.
“Our miseries and hardships have always been ignored by the authorities. The area is cut off from rest of the valley from last four months as if we are living in stone-age. We don’t have any facility available here due to closure of Bandipora-Gurez road. We are protesting outside Tehsil office to press for our demands. The road should be opened immediately so that our sufferings would be mitigated,” the protestors said.
The protestors were headed by Grand Imam of Jamai Masjid Dawar. Bandipora-Gurez road was closed for all vehicular movement in December last year due to heavy snowfall at Razdan Top and Tragbal area.
