Jammu: Asserting that war was no solution to any issue, Member Legislative Council Firdous Tak Tuesday said that border residents have always been the first causality of Indo-Pak hostilities.

“Those who are advocating and supporting the concept of armed confrontation and war on both sides of border have little concern  about the people who face the brunt of such hostility“, he said.

Tak alongwith party leaders Parvaiz Wafa, Gurmeet Singh, Narender Sharma, Sartaj Singh and others visited several villages of Suchetgarh sector on Indo-Pak border to interact with the local residents amid growing tension between the two neighbouring countries.

He said that it was PDP patron and the than Chief Minister Mufti Muhammad Sayeed who for the first time raised the concerns of border residents after taking over the government in 2002. It was his efforts that both the countries signed bilateral ceasefire in 2003 which held well till the last two to three years bringing in a modicum of normalcy into the lives of thousands of villagers living on the two sides of the international border and the LoC.

He said that the divisional administration must press its officials into action and keep a contingency plan ready in view of the heightened tension on the boarders. “The residents must be ensured of their safety and security and administration has to play a key role at this juncture”, he said.

Speaking on the occasion Youth PDP leader Parvaiz Wafa criticized the administration for failing to pay compensation to the fire sufferers of Klali Tiba where hundreds of structures of tribal community were gutted. “It is around a year since the village suffered huge loses but till now they have not been compensated”, he said adding that the locals have been approaching district and divisional administration but it seems everyone has turned a deaf ear to their plights.

He also expressed surprise over the non availability of Urdu teacher at the local government primary school where nearly 200 children of tribal community were undergoing education.

Locals highlighted various other issues which the PDP team assured to take up with the concerned authorities for early redressal.
