New Delhi:  The BJP on Thursday lashed out top Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and P Chidambaram for their continuous attack against the Modi government on the NPR debate and went on to dare Mr Gandhi to ‘stay back’ in a country during one of his overseas trips beyond permit to understand the reason behind having detention centres.

“Since Rahul Gandhi travels abroad quite often. Let him on one of those travels overstay beyond the valid visa permit and experience for himself how he is identified and put in a ‘detention center’ before being deported. He will then learn how countries handle illegal migrants…,” tweeted BJP IT cell chief Amit Malviya.

In another missive, he refers to the Home Ministry statement issued in 2011 during the UPA stint which divulged information on detention camps in Assam. “Seen this press release from 2011 issued by the Congress govt claiming to have sent 362 illegal migrants to ‘detention camps’ in Assam. Just because India has rejected you (Congress) repeatedly, are you hell bent on destroying it with your politics of hate and fear mongering?,” he charged.

In another tweet, Mr Malviya joined issue with senior Congress leader and former Home Minister Mr Chidambaram. “Mr Chidambaram, Your memory seems to be failing you. Let me help you a bit here…The year was 2012: ‘NPR process is for the purpose of issuing a residents card, which will eventually lead to a citizenship card’,” he says tagging a video clipping of Mr Chidambaram’s remarks. “It is in fact the NDA that has delinked the NPR from citizenship,” BJP IT cell chief said.
