Birla Open Minds International School organizes plantation drive

Srinagar : Birla Open Minds International School (BOMIS) in collaboration with the Department of Social Forestry and Jammu Kashmir Nigeen Lake Conservation Organization organized a community plantation drive at Pampore area of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district.

Nearly a thousand students participated in the awareness-cum-plantation drive which was also held on the school premises. Chairman BML Welfare Trust, Abdul Aziz Mir, was the chief guest of the event which was attended by a number of renowned dignitaries like General Secretary BML Welfare Trust, G M Lone; Chairman NLCO and Bilalia Educational Institute, Manzoor Ahmad Wangnoo.

The officials present on the occasion included Conservator South Circle Irfan Ali Shah, Regional Director Social Forestry Mehraj Ud Din Malik, DFO Awantipora Waseem Farooq, DFO Social Forestry Manzoor Ahmad, Environmental Lawyer Advocate Nadeem Qadri and others.

Around one thousand saplings were distributed among the students of BOMIS.

Forest Department officials and BOMIS Pampore management also planted a number of trees. They marked the saplings with their nameplates.

On the occasion, the chief guest and the guests of honour highlighted the importance of trees in sustaining life on the earth. They said the aim of the drive was to create social awareness among students about the importance of tree plantation.

The officials shared their views and ideas on how the community plantation and involvement can play a leading role in transforming society for the better. They said the idea of the community plantation drive is a unique one as it will go a long way in inculcating a sense of responsibility among students as their rightful duty towards nature—(KNO)
