Anantnag : The residents of Gadiser village in Bijbehara area of South Kashmir’s Anantnag district have demanded sports ground in the area so as to keep youth away from drugs
The Gadiser area is just around 2 kms from Bijbehara town and since years the residents here have been demanding sports facilities.
A group of residents told after repeated requests that a sports stadium was approved for the area and even state land was identified for it before years but no step was taken after that.
They said that three years have passed since land was identified but due to unknown reasons authorities have failed to take state land illegally occupied by some people.
“Our youth are getting involved in drugs and other anti-social activities as there are no sports facilities available for the youth in the area,” Ab Salam, an elderly resident of the area said.
He said that heart attacks are common now as youth have become physically inactive and there is a need to engage them in sports activities.
Locals said that state land is available in the area and the same was identified years ago but with some excuse of a path to the area, authorities are delaying the process.
They said that the issue has been brought to the notice of higher ups several times but to no avail.
