Have a single functional water tanker to cater public across sub-division Sumbal: Jal Shakti Dept official
Bandipora : Scores of residents, majority of which included local women folk, from Usman Colony Shahgund here in the district Monday staged a protest against department of Jal Shakti department over scarcity of potable water in the area.
The protestors assembled in the premises of Jal Shakti Department (previously PHE Department) at Irrigation Colony Sumbal, raising slogans against the department concerned.
The agitated locals said that they have been facing an acute shortage of drinking water, alleging that despite several appraisals the department concerned was yet to look into the matter. In the absence of clean drinking water, we are being forced to consume water from a nearby nallah, which may result in the breakout of any disease especially in children and old-aged persons, they said.
When contacted, a Jal Shakti Department official told GNS that the department has a single functional water tanker to cater the public in sub-division Sumbal. “We early had five water tankers, of which four have went defunct over the time, leaving us with a single tanker to supply the water”, the official said adding that Given the dearth of tankers’, it is getting difficult for them to reach people simultaneously, though they have been ‘trying their best’ to facilitate as much people as they can.
