Baghat family returns from wedding party to find house looted Investigation started: Police

Srinagar : The family members were shocked to see their house in the Baghat area of Srinagar looted on Monday when they returned from a wedding function of a close relative.

Living in the Jahangir Colony of Baghat, the family members told that they had gone to attend a marriage party two days ago, and upon their return, they were shocked to see their house looted and vandalised.

“As soon we entered our house, we found everything scattered. Wardrobes and lockers were broken, and gold, cash, copper, and other valuable items were missing,” they said.

One of the members said the thieves looted the money they had saved for the upgradation of the house the work on which was scheduled to begin in the next few days.

“I and my younger sister had bought some jewellery, but thieves have not spared anything and looted all of that,” she said.

Another member said, “I could not leave my father alone due to health issues and there was no one to look after him as my mother has passed away. Thieves after entering our house have looted gold, cash, copper and other valuable items.”

The family members said they were shocked and terrified to see their house looted. “We don’t know exactly how much they have looted, but so far we made tentative calculations which are: jewellery around Rs 4 to 5 lakh, copper utensils of nearly 5 to 6 lakh rupees, silver items, cash of Rs 2 to 3 lakh and other valuable items,” he said.

The family said they have lodged a police complaint at the Sadar Police Station. They have appealed to the police to investigate the matter, catch the thieves, and help them get back their stolen property.

Meanwhile, a police official told KNO that they have sent a team to the spot to ascertain the facts. The investigation has been started and we will take up the proceedings accordingly—(KNO)
