Avoid losses in virtual sector due to frequent internet gags : BMJA to Govt

SRINAGAR: Broadcast and Multimedia Journalists Association(BMJA) Kashmir today held a meeting to discuss the problems faced by the online media houses due to frequent internet gags.

The meeting was chaired by General Secretary Irfan Quraishi in which he said that the government should realise the fact that the continuous curbs on internet services in the valley creates huge inconvenience to the journalists, media houses besides the other business houses.

He said that this is irony when the establishment is talking about digital India and e- governance,the internet services are frequently disrupted in the valley. Adding that the suspension of internet not only damages the virtual businesses and services,but also led to huge loss in crores.

He said huge number of digital media and online media entrepreneurs suffer losses and damages to their growth.
He added that the internet gag raises serious questions on the free flow of information and this stops people from the right to information.

During the meeting while strongly condemining the move of authorities to suspend the internet services on and off in valley, a threadbare discussions were held on the internet gags in the valley. “These gags create financial crises and economic losses to the young budding digital media and other online ventures of the valley’’,Quraishi said in the meeting.

He appealed to authorities that these crises needed to be dealt with broad vision to avoid the losses in virtual sector.

Questions were also raised by the BMJA members about the compensation of losses faced by online media of the valley due to internet suspensions.
