Seeks Status Of Efforts Underway towards evacuation Of Kashmiris In Lok Sabha

Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir National Conference member of Parliament (Retd) Justice Hasnain Masoodi on Thursday sought the status of the efforts made by external affairs ministry towards repatriation and evacuation of stranded Kashmiri students from Iran.

According to statement issued to CNS, While reacting to the rejoinder made by union external affairs minister S Jaishankar’s statement in the Lok Sabha party Member of Parliament Masoodi said the attitude of the government vis-à-vis repatriation and evacuation of Kashmiri stranded students in Iran has been that of indifference and apathy. “Students who are stranded in Iran mostly fall in the age group of early twenties; as such it is the prime duty of the government to ensure their safety and early repatriation.  I have had meetings with the concerned health minister and the external affairs minister in this regard. The duo had ensured me prompt action in this regard. Nothing substantial is being done to ensure early repatriation of stranded Indian compatriots from Iran, which regrettably has seen a spur in corona-virus related cases and deaths. The emergent situation in Iran has added to the worries of scores of families here in Kashmir, whose kith and kin are stranded there.”

Masoodi in his response to the statement made by union external affairs minister inquired about the current status of the efforts being made to rescue the stranded Indian compatriots mostly students. In his rejoinder the union minister for external affairs said that more men and machinery is being flown to Iran to provide necessary medical aid and required testing facilities to those stranded there.

He also said that the concerned ministry is industriously working on the issue and that all the stranded Indian compatriots shall be repatriated to India as soon as possible. The EAM said that the government is taking all necessary steps to ensure safety of all 6000 Indian stranded students in Iran.
