SRINAGAR: The army personnel from the Chodurgund army camp along with SOG of the Jammu and Kashmir Police allegedly went on a rampage in the village and ransacked public and private properties including parked vehicles, window panes of houses and shops after the area erupted in celebration of Pakistan’s win against Sri Lanka in a nail biting cricket match of the Champions Trophy 2017 at Cardiff.
According to locals of Vehil village of the district the Pakistan win was celebrated by bursting firecrackers. As soon as the bangs of firecrackers went into the air, it apparently irked the forces personnel of the 44 RR camp in the neighboring Chodubugh village, they said.
They said that within no time army personnel reached the village who resort to firing in the air. Adding that the whole village was vandalized.
They alleged that the locks of shops were broken apart and were later ransacked adding that many houses were completely ransacked, dozens of vehicles were damaged by the army. They also alleged that the army personnel beat some locals to pulp when they tried to confront them.
