SRINAGAR : APJ Kalam Simiti International one of the biggest International organization has Felicitate Tessy Thosam for the Women achievement award 2019 in a very impressive function conducted in Trivandrum Kerala.Ruchi Chouhan Khan Director Asian Roll Ball Federation who hails from the state of J&K was the Chief Guest on this occasion who spoke on women empowerment women emancipation & rights of women in present India.She briefed the gathering about different schemes launched by the Govt. for the benefits of women & how to avail these schemes to strengthen themselves.The organization has a separate wing to empower females. This organization is supported by ISRO & is in the process to launch Dr. APJ Kalam Samiti International Knowledge township & Dr. Kamal Cancer Research Centre The organization has already hosted many National & International events & has the credentials of hosting/inviting President of Maldives H.E. Abdullah Yameen Abdul Gayoom in 2017,President of Ghana H.E. Nana Akufo Addo in 2018, President of Mauritius HE Paramasivum Pillay Barlen Vyapoory,beside inviting diplomats, governors , CM’s of various states.
Tessy Thomas Director General of Aeronautical Systems and the former Project Director for Agni missile program in Defence Research and Development Organisation. She is the first woman scientist to head a missile project in India. She is known as the ‘Missile Woman’ of India. She joined DRDO in 1988 and was placed in the department of design and development of the new generation ballistic missile, Agni. For the Agni Programme, she had been appointed by Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam.
Tessy was associate project director of the 3,000 km range Agni 111 project. She was the project director for mission Agni 1V which was successfully tested in 2011. Tessy was appointed as the Project Director for 5,000 km range Agni V in 2009. The missile was successfully tested on 19 April 2012. She was appointed as Director-General, Aeronautical Systems of DRDO in 2018.
Thomas received the Lal Bahadur Shastri National award for her contribution for making India self-reliant in the field of missile technology.
