SRINAGAR: The annual solar eclipse according to the metrology will occur tomorrow on February 26, Sunday in the world.
While talking to PTK; the Metrology official said that it will be viewed by people in many parts of the world adding that it won’t be viewed in Asia. The places which will be able to view the eclipse the best are South America, West Africa, The Atlantic, The Pacific and the Indian Ocean.
Metrology official said that the solar eclipse may begin at 17 hours 4.9 minutes and would be in full eclipse at 20 hours 23.4 minutes. While it ends at 23 hours 6 minutes. He said that the maximum duration of the full eclipse would be 1.22 minutes. The official said that the magnitude of the solar eclipse would be 0.992.
The officials confirmed to PTK that it is not viewed in Valley or northern part of India. However there are reports saying that, in India, the eclipse will only be visible in certain southern parts of the country. Reports reaching to PTK said that, there are rumors of solar eclipse to be viewed in the Jammu and Kashmir state which is not authentic and reliable.
PTK received many call from people asking about the authenticity of the reports of solar eclipse. Many callers were showing concern about its impact on the pregnant woman, hence wanted to know the timing eclipse.
Dr Nissar-Ul-Hassan while talking to PTK, said that the impact of solar eclipse may be on eyes adding peoples should use eye shades while viewing solar eclipse. He adds that no impact on pregnant woman proven so far.
When contacted Dr Anayat Mir also said that retina might be damaged if you watch directly towards it. While commenting over the myths that eclipse affect pregnant woman, he said that that scientifically, there has been no evidence to prove that eclipse (both lunar and solar) can be harmful during pregnancy. He adds, however, more than myths and following traditions blindly, it is important to look at things logically.
Worthy to mention, that it is a unique experience to see the eclipse but with proper precautions. But even if you are not able to view the Solar Eclipse properly, do not worry, as scientists say the phenomenon will continue to occur for millions of years till the sun and the moon move too far away from each other.
