Speakers, devotees condemn unjust house arrest of Mirwaiz-e-Kashmir

Srinagar: Anjuman Auqaf Jama Masjid Srinagar on Friday organised a conference titled “Rehmat-al Lil Aalameen” at the historic central Jama Masjid Srinagar to observe the blessed birth of the Prophet of Mercy Hazrat Muhammad Mustafa (Peace Be Upon Him).As per a statement issued renowned scholars from the valley highlighted various aspects of the life of the Prophet (PBUH) while naatkhans recited praises in the honour of the Last Messenger of Allah (PBUH).The event was supposed to be presided over by Mirwaiz-e-Kashmir Dr Moulvi Muhammad Umar but he continues to be under house arrest by the authorities, preventing him from attending this blessed gathering.Participants and scholars strongly condemned the house arrest of Mirwaiz-e-Kashmir, and said this led to the disappointment among the worshippers and devotees who had come to the grand masjid to benefit from his teachings on the last Friday of the month of Rabi al-Awwal.In their addresses, the speakers said that the Prophet’s (PBUH) life serves as a guiding light for Muslims throughout history. They said that while Islam is flourishing globally, Muslims seem to be drifting away from Islamic teachings. The main reason for this disconnect is the failure to incorporate the universal principles of Islam and the Prophet’s (PBUH) character into their lives, they added.Among the scholars who spoke were Maulana Shaukat Hussain Keing, Maulana Masroor Abbas Ansari, Maulana M.S. Rahman Shams, Maulvi Ghulam Nabi Bukhari, and Mr Muhammad Rafiq Zargar, who highlighted various aspects of the Prophet’s life and urged Muslims to adopt the Prophetic way of life as their guiding principle.Maulana Masroor Abbas Ansari elaborated on the great teachings of the Prophet (PBUH) and discussed the continuous service of the Mirwaizeen-e-Kashmir to Islam since the beginning. He said, “Currently, our religious rights are being forcibly taken away, and despite the government’s claims of Mirwaiz’s freedom, he has not been allowed to participate in this significant gathering today nor is he able to fulfill his official responsibilities at the Jamia Mosque, which we strongly condemn.”He added that preventing Mirwiaz from addressing the Friday congregations at the pulpit of Jama Masjjid is the direct interference in the religious duty. “We don’t speak doesn’t mean we have surrendered. We will bow before the Almighty only,” he said.Meanwhile, the Anjuman Awqaf Jama Masjid condemned the unjust house arrest of Mirwaiz for the fourth consecutive Friday and the restrictions on his religious and official activities. Anjumam said, “While the Prime Minister and Home Minister of India speak tirelessly about anew vision for Kashmir, a voice advocating peace and dialogue is silenced through force, and his official, religious, and social responsibilities are unjustly curtailed.”The Anjuman appealed to all conscientious citizens and human rights organisations to raise their voices against the unjust policies of the authorities concerning Mirwaiz-e-Kashmir—(KNO)
