Anantnag Couple turn dreams into reality through NRLM’s Umeed scheme

Srinagar : Fighting all odds in life a couple from Ashmuqam area of South Kashmir’s Anantnag district converted their dream of self-reliance into the dawn of new hope by setting up a business unit of a joinery mill.

Manzoor Ahmad Bhat along with his wife Rubi Jan from Nambal area of Ashmuqam in South Kashmir’s Anantnag district after starting the business not only earn for themselves but also provide employment to four others.

According to the couple, they set the business unit functional in 2015, through Centre-sponsored scheme Umeed programme under JKSRLM at Nambal village after which they shifted to Ashmuqam in Jammu and Kashmir’s Anantnag district.

“I came to know about UMEED of NRLM (National Rural Livelihood Mission) and they helped me by providing interest-free loan of Rs 15, 000 and I started a business of mill which I gradually increased,” said Rubi Jan said while speaking with news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO).

“Today we earn from Rs 20,000 to Rs 25,000 a month and our entire family is happy as my husband also joined me in the business,” she said.

“The rate of unemployment is higher here but now with the launch of the scheme, many youth can get an opportunity to earn. We are being benefited by the help of this scheme,” said Manzoor Ahmad Bhat.

He urged unemployed educated youths of the valley to avail benefits of schemes provided by the government.

The cluster coordinator of UMEED, Salfiya Jan, said the Union government’s NRLM is rapidly changing the lives of womenfolk of far-off areas by helping and motivating them to earn their livelihood by providing them easy loans and giving them technical help to become entrepreneurs in a small but very effective way—(KNO)
